MENOPAUSE

Menopause – in years proceeding menopause, called the prime menopause, her ovaries are producing less of the female sex
hormones oestrogen and progesterone,  while ovulation  (the monthly release of an egg)  also become less frequent.

This hormonal fluctuation can result in a variety of uncomfortable symptoms,  including hot flushes and night sweats,
vaginal dryness,  mood swings,  sleep problems and unusually light or heavy periods.

Asthma -  An asthma attack can occur when an irritant – usually a common substance like smoke,  cold or dry air,  pollen,  mould or dust mites – meets a pair of sensitive lungs.

Hormonal fluctuations,  stress and anger can also trigger an attack.

Your difficulty in breathing occurs because the bronchi-oles  (air passages in the lungs)  go into spasms. This can cause coughing and tightness in the chest.

Since there is no pain associated with early osteoporosis,  its important to be aware of the risk  factors,  so that you can head off the disease by taking precautions now.  A simple  15  minute test called the  DEXA  scan  (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry)  measures your bone density and tells whether you’re at risk for osteoporosis.

Ask your doctor about having a DEXA scan if you:

Lactose Intolerance or Dairy Sensitivity is not usually a serious medical problem.

As long as you avoid dairy in all its forms,   the symptoms will disappear.   But many people don’t know that they lactose intolerance or sensitive to milk;  all they know is that they feel lousy a lot of the time.

Milk drinkers are often full of mucus,  they tend to have more sinus infections,   coughs,  headaches,  ear infections,  post nasal drip,  and colds than non – milk drinkers.

High Energy secrets to wipe out Fatigue.

Fatigue isn’t a disease.  It doesn’t show up on diagnostic tests.  No drug can cure it.  There isn’t an operation that will cut it out of the body.  Some conventional doctors,  who are trained to detect illnesses with tests and solve them with drugs or surgery,  may dismiss fatigue as incurable.

Some doctors simply tell their patients that fatigue is as natural a consequence of growing older as grey hair and wrinkles,  they say you simply have to live with it.  That is sheer and utter nonsense.

The vast majority of colds aren’t very serious and will go away on their own.  In some cases,  however,  what begins as a cold turns into a more serious kind of infection,  such as bronchitis or sinusitis.

A cold that doesn’t get better within 2 weeks and is accompanied by wheezing:  pain in the ears,  sinuses,  or chest,  or a cough that brings up greenish or bloody mucus needs to be seen by a doctor.

Man in the Kitchen – The Power of Good Cooking

Posted in Nutrition on September 9th, 2009 by Health & Fitness Guru – Be the first to comment

“The attitude of men toward animals is this: Once having seen them alive, he can’t bear to see them die, and once having heard their cry, he can’t bear to eat their flesh. This is why men keep their distance from the kitchen.” wrote the Chinese philosopher Mencius For millennia, men have cooked up excuses not to do the cooking. But two dozen centuries after Mencius, most of these excuses have grown pretty old. Now, a lot of us not only carve the occasional bird but stuff and truss it as well. And we whip up the gravy, sauce the cranberries, and convert actual pumpkins into pie. In fact, many men have discovered that they can get their kicks in the kitchen, Cooking turns out to be a lot like fooling around with your kiddy chemistry set, but better.

High Cholesterol

Posted in Nutrition on August 17th, 2009 by Health & Fitness Guru – 1 Comment

Maybe you think of cholesterol as a kind of evil plug.  The usual story goes like this.

You eat too much cholesterol or animal fat, which is converted to cholesterol in your body, the cholesterol clogs your coronary arteries, and blood and oxygen can’t get through to your heart, causing a heart attack.

The idea is that if you lower your cholesterol, all will be well.

Top 10 Vegetables

There are no bad vegetables, but there are some that are pretty lame. Unfortunately, the lame ones tend to be the ones we eat the most.

Your average fast-food salad entombed in its plastic casket, for example, usually consists of a wad of iceberg lettuce, a couple slices of cucumber, a bloodless tomato, and maybe a dusting of carrot shavings. They aren’t worthless, but you can do a lot better.
