Walking Away From Knee Pain

Posted in Fitness, Walking on August 9th, 2011 by Health & Fitness Guru – Be the first to comment

You should contact a doctor if you have stiffness and pain in one or both knees,  especially if it lasts for more than 6 weeks;
knee pain, swelling, or tenderness, especially swelling that occurs within 24 hours of an injury;  or any pain that interfered with mobility or daily activities.

The knee is composed of two bones ( the femur and the tibia)  balancing on one another and lashed in place on all sides by muscles and connective tissue.
It is the only weight-bearing  joint in the body with this design.  And that makes the knee prone to arthritis, injuries,  and pain.

Water Retention

Posted in Fitness, Medical, Nutrition on June 9th, 2011 by Health & Fitness Guru – Be the first to comment

Pre and postmenopausal women may hold excess fluid because they’re not eating enough protein, have a high salt diet, or aren’t getting enough vitamin B6.

Food or chemical sensitivities may also contribute.  While short-term fluid retention isn’t necessarily serious, a long standing problem could be a sign of a hormone imbalance or even acute heart or kidney failure.

If  it isn’t part of a monthly menstrual cycle or if it’s accompanied by shortness of  breath, pain in the calf muscles,  or a decrease in urination, see a doctor straight away.

If you are diagnosed with hypertension,  make sure you follow the advice your doctor has given you.

Arthritis – There are more than 100 types of arthritis, but the most common type is osteoarthritis.

Symptoms include painful stiff swollen joints in any part of the body. The pain is the result of wear and tear on cartilage,  the gel-like shock-absorbing material between joints.

When cartilage wears away, bone grinds against bone.

Although you can develop osteoarthritis at any age,  it usually occurs in people over 45,  and is more common among women.
Other forms of the disease are rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.

High Cholesterol

High cholesterol inside your arteries, a dangerous change has taken place in the balance of  fatty substances that circulates in your bloodstream.

To keep your arteries from getting clogged up and prevent them from getting any more clogged up  -  you’ll need to lower your cholesterol.

But not all cholesterol is harmful.  Low density  lipoprotein  (LDL) cholesterol is the bad stuff;   high density lipoprotein  (HDL) cholesterol is beneficial, as it removes LDL from the blood. Often changes in diet and lifestyle are enough to bring cholesterol  levels back to a healthy balance.

Since there is no pain associated with early osteoporosis,  its important to be aware of the risk  factors,  so that you can head off the disease by taking precautions now.  A simple  15  minute test called the  DEXA  scan  (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry)  measures your bone density and tells whether you’re at risk for osteoporosis.

Ask your doctor about having a DEXA scan if you:

Techniques to Help Control Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Posted in Fitness, Medical, Yoga on February 2nd, 2010 by Health & Fitness Guru – 1 Comment

Prescription tranquillizers such as  diazepam ( Valium )  aren’t all bad.  They can help you cope with acute anxiety.  When you take tranquillizers day by day to control chronic anxiety,  they can actually cause the very problem they’re suppose to treat.

That’s because tranquillizers are addictive.  Your brain and body may develop a physical dependence on them within 4 weeks of daily use.  Then, if you try to stop using them,  the inevitable period of physical withdrawal produces  anxiety.  Therefore if you have been taking prescription tranquillizers daily for more than 4 weeks,  you need a program to help you stop taking the drugs,  since the symptoms of sudden withdrawal can be overwhelming.

Fatigue

High Energy secrets to wipe out Fatigue.

Fatigue isn’t a disease.  It doesn’t show up on diagnostic tests.  No drug can cure it.  There isn’t an operation that will cut it out of the body.  Some conventional doctors,  who are trained to detect illnesses with tests and solve them with drugs or surgery,  may dismiss fatigue as incurable.

Some doctors simply tell their patients that fatigue is as natural a consequence of growing older as grey hair and wrinkles,  they say you simply have to live with it.  That is sheer and utter nonsense.
